Hi guys,
I have been trying to go 100% 811 for about 6 months now and I get really frustrated about the fact that I cannot hold it more than one week at a time. In fact so frustrated now so I really contemplate going back to cooked vegan.
So I am really trying to dig into the causes for this.
I am 174 cm and weigh 75 kg (I have gainged 8 kg from my weekly cooked food binges).
I try to eat 4000 cals a day, but I usually end up eating around 3300.
I eat a lot of medjool dates
I do 75 min astanga yoga everyday, bike 5-10 K everyday and do high cardio 3 times a week.
I drink 3-4+ L every day.
I sleep 9-12 hours every night
I take b12 drops and vitD pills (I live in Denmark)
I eat 75-150 gr of greens a day (way to little??)
On next thursday I am getting my blodwork done to see if I have any deficiencies.
Do you guys think it is the calories? I mean I do not really exersize that much. Do I need more greens, more sun, more exersize?
I am really motivated and therefore it hurts everytime I have a set back. My mom started making vegan food and it really tempts me. Can I ever get to the point where it does not tempt me? Because to be honest, I cannot help thinking that I am just to weak or lack selfdiscipline to stick to this. So if there will be just the tiniest temptation I will not be able to stay away from it.
Every advice or thought you have will be appreciated A LOT, thank you :)

Looks like there are several class-action law suits ongoing with both Pepsi-Co and Coca-Cola for their products, so hopefully those will make some difference, but I won't hold my breath.
Apparently Whole Food's brand doesn't go through this 'flavor pack' process, so there's potentially one option. But hey... I guess I'll just have to get real and start juicing my own!
Thanks for unveiling my ignorance for me Lorra :)

Permalink Reply by Jon Fergus on April 16, 2012 at 5:23am HI Cecilie. Wonderful to see such honesty and humility in your post. :)
First thing I'd say is to just breathe and relax, try to allow yourself the room to be imperfect. One of the objects of this lifestyle is to lower one's overall stress in life, so if it is causing you increased stress, that is kind of stepping in the wrong direction. One of the big things is patience... it really is one of the king virtues. Now, if you practice astanga yoga, you will know the value of patience in its practice, particularly during pratyahara. The same applies here. Patience and calmness help us weather the bumps and occasional trip-ups along our path, just as patience in yoga helps lower the impact of our sense perceptions.
Overall, from what you describe here, you seem to be doing great! Perhaps the final touch is just a simple adjustment in your state of mind. Instead of seeing these cooked food excursions as failures, just see them as part of the journey. Besides, the most important things on this lifestyle are staying away from the animal products and staying high-carb, low fat. Going raw is just the next step to optimization.
So... no need to be stressed or hard on yourself. Just keep plugging along, do your best, stay focused on your goal of long-term health, stay raw as often and as much as you can, and let the stress melt away :)
Oh, and just one little thing. Your exercise isn't over the top, but even if you relaxed it a little more, I think you'd be fine. It's really the only thing I can see for you to experiment with; you could try less exercise for a couple of weeks and see if you notice a difference, maybe just a bit more time with your body at rest. Ever watch animals... how well they just sit and 'be', fully relaxed? This can help with our stress levels, by returning our body to equilibrium.
p.s. let us know how the bloodwork goes :)

You are right :) I just wonder wether I lack something or if I do not eat enough? Because I never seem to be able to pass the 8 days.
I am also in a stressfull period of my life ATMJ so I definately think that affects me. I have skipped the yoga for four days now, also because of a zumba instructor training this weekend, and I really miss it. It helps me settle and relax so I really wouldn't let go of that.
Thanks for telling me I am doing great, I just look at all the people that go from one day to another or have one slipup and I do not feel like I am doing great then haha.

This is sooooo important!! Don't look at every time you eat cooked food as a step back, look at it like it's a step forward, because that's what it is. It's all a part of the learning process, and when you slip up you learn more about this yourself and this lifestyle. For me, every time I slip up it just brings me back to this lifestyle and gives me a deeper understanding of why I've chosen to eat like this, and leave all those bad foods behind, in the first place.
Know in your heart that you're on the path to health and happiness :)
Permalink Reply by Peter Csere on April 16, 2012 at 5:26am I try to eat 4000 cals a day, but I usually end up eating around 3300.
Ah-hah.
Your 4000 goal must be there for a reason - at some point, you said to yourself "If I don't eat at least 4000 kcals/day, I will experience symptoms of being undercarbed - some of them might be - craving cooked foods, less energy, light sleep or difficulty getting sleep, etc" but obviously your main problem is cooked food binges.
So you've identified a comfort level of calories. The next step is to ACCEPT this as fact - IF you eat less than 4000 kcals a day, you WILL eat cooked food (and if you don't, you will be undercarbed, not sleep as good, and just crave cooked food worse the next day.)
It helps at 4:00 to know that if I haven't had 3500-4000 kcals, I'll fail at suppertime. I knock back another smoothie or a bunch of dates and I'm good to go.
I do 75 min astanga yoga everyday, bike 5-10 K everyday and do high cardio 3 times a week.
Do you guys think it is the calories? I mean I do not really exersize that much.
I'm going to say (and I think many people with a similar activity level as this might agree with me) that 3300 kcals is not enough if you are exercising that much. 75 mins yoga and 5-10k biking, and cardio every other day. You definitely need to start consistently hitting your goals of 4000 kcals daily; that is why you are failing. 4000 might even be on the low side for you for that much exercise, you'll have to experiment.
Getting enough fruit is a very common problem and stressed me out too. Get this under control and you will be fine. Always have a 10-15lb box of dates on hand. When I forget about "inventory" and run out of dates I am almost guaranteed to have problems. Always have an extra case of bananas on hand etc. Make it your goal to become competent at managing your "fruit inventory."

Permalink Reply by Greenmama on April 16, 2012 at 5:27am I think you're doing awesome. Maybe sit down at the end of each day and write down all the positive things that you did for yourself and your body, and just absorb a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction into your being. I've been doing this journey for 6 years and I'm still barely at the point where you are at after 6 months. So hey, you're a fast learner!
The one lesson I can share is that the harder you are on yourself, the harder it is to have success.
