Permalink Reply by Craig Plunkett on August 9, 2012 at 5:24am I've been running for a few months and my knees only hurt because I was ignorant as to the importance of having proper running shoes. I got a pair of Brooks GS yesterday and my dull ache has left me.
Start running, if you feel your knees begin to hurt then you're quite free to just give it a rest for a while.
Permalink Reply by Barbo on August 9, 2012 at 5:39am In a study they followed runner vs. non-runners for 20 years, and it turned out the runners joint were actually healthier than those who didn't exercise. You won't get bad knees at an old age from running.
It is important though, that you choose an exercise that you enjoy, and it doesn't have to be running.
As for Harley, he doesn't jog, he RUNS, and pretty fast! He won quite a few 5K races as far as I know.

Permalink Reply by David Costa on August 9, 2012 at 6:18am Do lots of stuff, I added swimming and cycling to the mix recently. I used to just run to get exercise and not much else, I'd run, get sore then go sit indoors for a day or two. I'd only get out maybe 30 miles a week, that's running and walking, I quit driving a few years back and never even ride in anyone's car anymore, so I wasn't getting out much.
With the bike I bought I have been getting close to 200 miles a week now, many more things to see and explore now, it's what allows me to get all the way to the beach so I can swim.
Permalink Reply by DURIANRIDER on August 9, 2012 at 7:54am I just got 9th overall in the Brisbane Half Marathon out of over 1600 people. I think running is a natural thing. People get injured cos they have a 20 year break and then try and use running for weight loss and overtrain and get injured.
If running was 'bad for knees' like our 400lb neighbours tell us then why are we born to run?
Ive won 13 out of 15 of the last 5k races Ive done. http://www.parkrun.com.au/kirra/results/wincounts
Park Run has free weekly 5k races all over the world. Its a great starting point to build great cardio for sure.
BTW if we live in the west and 'can't afford' a well fitted road bicycle then we just don't want one at the end of the day.
Permalink Reply by ola johansson on August 12, 2012 at 7:49am I bought a road bicycle for 200 dollars and it works fine for me. no problem doing a 200kilometer workout.
Permalink Reply by James bananaman Bailey on August 10, 2012 at 11:30am running doesn't have to be hard on the joints. infact when done correctly it can increace the condition of the lower limbs.
