30 Bananas a Day!

Hey guys,

I'm thinking of getting a hammock to sleep in to save space and wondered if anyone else does this? If so is it comfortable to sleep in?

Thanks and sorry for a slightly bizarre question!!!

Thanks for the advice Perry! I definitely want something super comfy since I'm planning to sleep in it every night :)

I've read good things about sleeping in hammocks. I almost tried converting when I needed to get a new bed for my apartment but I backed out. If you end up doing it, let us know how you like it.

Will do :) I'm still a little nervous that I won't be able to sleep in it, but a hammock sounds so much more fun than a regular bed that I just have to try it!

I sleep in a mayan style hammock every night. I use to be a stomach sleeper but quickly converted. For backpacking I sew my own hammock (super small to cut down on the weight. Sleeping in a hammock is much more comfortable then a bed. Go for it!

That's awesome that you make your own camping hammock! How cool :) Good to hear that they are more comfortable than a bed...I think I will go for it! :)

I've been sleeping in a jumbo Mayan hammock for six years now and I'll never go back to a regular bed. I've never slept more comfortably. Remember, it must be jumbo sized for sleeping all night in. I also sleep in a flannel sleeping bag. I have a light weight travel hammock made of parachute for beach napping, and a Hennesy hammock for camping. Highly recommended and good luck!!

That hammock looks awesome Vicki! Love the rainbow stripes :) And it's great to hear from a long-term hammock sleeper too! I will make sure to get a jumbo sized one then. One more question - do the walls you attach it to need to be particularly strong and what do you use to hang it from? Thanks for the advice and have a lovely day, Esperanza xxx

I had a carpenter hang it for me so he could find the studs in the wall. Yes, it needs to be pretty strong. Also, it took me a couple of nights to get used to sleeping all night in it. Very strange at first...my whole body had pins and needles the first night! Plus, it takes some practice getting in and out of it in the dark to go to the bathroom. I use a buckwheat neck pillow to prop under my cheek with  my head straight back on the hammock. You'll work it out and I'm sure you'll love it!

Thanks! I'll make sure to get it put up properly then so I don't bring a wall down when I get in ;) I'll probably fall out a few times during the first couple of weeks I expect, but good to know you get used to it! I'll look into pillow as well :) Thanks so much for all the help, and have a lovely evening, Esperanza xxx
