30 Bananas a Day!

anyone have any opinions on guava?  i am a produce buyer at a natural food store in wisconsin and we don't have access to nearly as much tropical fruit as i would like, but our distributor does have guava on their availability list.  we are thinking about carrying it, but we don't know anything about it.  i figured there would be no better place than here to learn!  is it good? what does it taste like?

I found a place that you can order them from http://www.grovestand.net/

It's about $30 for 5lbs., the Mexican ones are in season from Dec. to Jan.

Although my screen name is GuavaGirl, I've actually never had them... I'm looking forward to it. (I just like the sound of the word, and one of my fav albums is 'Pure Guava' by Ween)

here they mention asian guava.

The price will most likely be way better too.

hah. 2 answers from people in Wisconsin finding other states that sell fruit.

Oh thanks!

Hehaa, sunshower is also from WI.

:D

I've only had bad regular guavas, so I'm not sure about those.

Pineapple guava on the other hand, grow in my area, and they are AWESOME. They're super fragrant and flowery smelling, and they have a really unique tangy sweetness. Nothing like pineapple. But they're excellent.

It is very fragrant. Very. From what I hear, the Hawaiians don't eat much of it despite its abundance. I like them, but my senses tell me to discourage you from pursuing them as a product to sell.
