30 Bananas a Day!

Hey there! Three days ago I bought a case of Ecuadorian bananas. They were green. Today I found them soft spotty but still green a bit. I've tried one it was super soft and sweet. WTF?

I just ran into the same thing today. Mine look even greener but have brown spots all over. Guess I will eat them up tomorrow.

I"ve just eaten eight and some of them were almost overripe

I'm having the same issue. Was wondering why they still have green.

From my understanding this is caused when they are stored too cold after harvesting (probably in a warehouse at a distribution center) They will not turn yellow. I am eating some right now that are still green but ripe.

I have noticed that the window of time when they turn ripe to when they are over ripe is shorter than when they turn yellow. I also noticed that if I get a name brand such as Dole or Del Monte, they do ripen correctly. When I get a box of a no-name brand, they tend to ripen when green.

+1 for being stored too cold.

I use the feel test when a banana begins to spot but is still showing some green at the tips.  I wait until it feels soft to the touch.  If it's soft & I wait until it becomes heavily spotted & yellow at the tips it tends to be mushy.  My ideal banana is firm but very ripe.  When the ambient temperature is high, a banana will often become soft before it ripens & it's best to buy when the fruit is within a day or two of ripe.

Mine do this too so annoying

haha funny I was gonna make a topic on this because same thing happened to me.  I got 2 cases that were green and SUPER ripe on the inside, they tasted amazing though and were perfect.

I thought maybe this was caused by a sort of 'false' ripening.  As if the bananas were put in a bag to ripen or something, and not given their full natural ripening cycle.  Just a guess though, i have no idea really.  Happens to my bananas too all the time!

Some of our local organic bananas stay greenish when ripe, in St. Croix.  The store bought bananas always turn yellow.  So nothing to worry about.

I have experienced similar situation. In fact my bananas are not even as spotty as yours. However I could tear them off from the bunch with negligible resistance and they tasted sweet. I suspect it is the due to the warmer climate I lived in (Singapore).

Well,ANYBODY can see that those bananas are ripe, slightly green or not.The front one is even falling off the bunch on it's own accord.Better eat them a.s.a.p.
