30 Bananas a Day!

Hey so my dad is having his birthday weekend, and I want to make something amazingly breathtakingly awesome. This is especially important because the catering of choice is an entire lamb on a spit (oh, my heart hurts for that poor baby) and I need to divert peoples attention away as much as possible. It can't be that hard. It's a whole freaking lamb with legs and eyes everywhere, I think I can safely say it will freak some people out.

I was thinking of just doing a huge fruit platter because I've noticed people really love fruit when it is conveniently prepared for them. What do you think? Any better ideas? What fruits should I use?

I really have no idea. Personally I'd really rather have an entire watermelon lol but I don't think that's going to blow anyone's mind.

Oh and my dad is thankfully funding this project, so price is not an issue ;)

Interesting! I might even try that on some of the people at the part ;)

Yeah a nice, fresh fruit salad does sound good.

A big watermelon swan bowl filled with fruit salad, or watermelon peacock with fruit kebabs for the tail! That would really impress the guests! There are some watermelon bowl ideas here: http://www.wellsphere.com/chronic-pain-article/watermelon-carving-p...

You could put a few orange peel and radish flowers around the base for extra wow factor!

Wow, those are cool! I really love the teapot as well. Thanks!

Mmm yeah tabouli is amazing :)

I have a few ideas!

Megan elizabeth's mango chutney and coconut date balls

Make a load of banana whip and put fruit sauce and chopped nuts on it like sundaes

Dates are always popular I've found, or dates stuffed with nuts

Low fat raw vegan pie (quite a few good recipes out there)

Huge salad with loads of great veggies (lettuce, swiss chard, kale, tomatos, cucumber, cauliflower, broccoli, celery, cabbage, dates, etc) I love this kind of thing but maybe it's 'too healthy' for sad eaters?!?

Hope this helps and have a great party!

Oh yes I really like the idea of a pie! I've seen a few recipes but never actually tried them out (mostly because I usually eat the dates while I'm preparing everything and am left with too few to do anything with :P). Great suggestions, thanks!

I have found that a simple dish or tray of grapes will slowly disappear.  They last a long time and will not go bad.  Put them between the food and the desert section.  People will keep taking them handful by handful, and before you know it, they are gone.  I guess people do not need a place or bowl for them.

You could make a salad pizza.  It might look pretty in a clear class dish, or spread out on a tray.  A layer of greens and romaine lasts pretty long.  A layer of very thinly sliced tomatoes, and a layer of thinly sliced mushrooms.  Then top that with a layer of vegan "cheese"  aka small avocado pieces.  I would slice everything ahead of time, but keep in separate container, then about five minute before serving.

You can plug in recipes into the search key for more ideas.

Peace, PK

True grapes are always a favourite, I think because naturally suited to be finger food as they are bite sized and mess-free. That salad pizza sounds good as well, might have to make that for myself actually! Thanks for your answer :)

I am making this trifle on christmas day:

Top layer of 'cream' = whole pitted lychees

Second Layer of 'custard' = blended mango or persimmon

Layer of 'sponge' = coins of sliced banana

Bottom fruit layer = blended cherries and grape juice with halved cherries and strawbs mixed in.

Layer up and tah-dah! So much faster and scrummier than the sad version :D

Ohhhh my God. You totally made my life with this post...like, I can't even. No words. I used to LOVE trifle but this sounds a bazillion times better. Thank you thank you thank you. I am so damn excited to make this for myself at Christmas and dig into it while everyone is stuck with their sad chicken wings, I can already imagine the looks of envy! You are officially like, my hero.

These look amazing minus the chocolate crap on some of them: http://www.ediblearrangements.com/

But probably a bit ambitious. Good luck!
