I too am iron deficient. Is 30 what is considered not iron deficient then?
I was severely anemic 1 1/2 years ago. My ferratin level was 3.1 I was able to bring my iron level up to normal by drinking a smoothie of apples, oranges and various greens every day.
When you mix greens with a fruit high in citric or malic acid (like apples) it doubles the body ability to absorb iron.
No iron supplements needed!
3.1 oh my god, could you still stand up straight without passing out. Mine where 6 and that is considered LOOOW, I had two blood transfusions.
Now I'm doing what you did, super green fruit smoothies, actually chewing on one as I type this ;)

hi my dotor told me 6,1 i was alwas tired, the problem is i eat about kg of vegetable beet, carrot, broccoli, caurliflower, greens everyday...and oranges, apples, bananas and dates mostly....i dont want supplement neither meet, why this happen anis it because i eat too much greens-oxilic acid? I thought i cooked lentils to boost it everyday, nsinc i am also having woman days., which even worther the problem...

Once I got to 1.5 lbs of greens a day, my iron levels became amazingly perfect. Interestingly, when I was an omnivore growing up, they were always borderline anemic. It wasn't lfrv per se that improved my iron levels, but rather eating all the greens :)
Nope I workout at the gym so I get plenty of Iron.

do you meen u got better absorbtion?

As I read on "Nutrition and Athletic performance" by Dr Graham those are foods high in Iron:

Arugula
Spinach
Almonds
Green Kale
Romaine lettuce
Cashews
Flax (very high)
Hazelnuts
Brazil nuts
pumpkin pipes (very high)

hope it helps!

waw great, thx. there are two question that still struggle me....absorbtion:either could have been my issue(now i go watermelon fastmto balance the body and then maybe high in green juices as well(coz if i eat fat i still have digestion issue, unfortunatelly)...also i have read about oxylic acid in greens and othernblockers and i am confused what is then best to use...if soaked nuts or sprouted seeds or greens in orange juice...or just continue high fruit diet mono and let it balance out?

hey folks,

yesterday i got my blood test back and it showed that im borderline anemic.

  • number of white blood cells (WBC)         -4110 (4230 - 9070)
  • number of red blood cells (RBC)              - 4.3 (4.63 - 6.08)
  • hemoglobin content (Hgb)                      - 13.6 (13.7 - 17.5)
  • hematocrit (Hct)                                      40.2 (40.1-51.0)
  • mean corpuscular volume (MCV)            +93.7 (79.0 - 92.2)
  • mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH)       31.7 (25.7 - 32.2)
  • mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) 33.8 (32.3 - 36.5)

i had this kind of results already last summer, hwoever back then the hgb was even a bit lower 13.2. i also did a serum mma test which revealed that my mma levels arent elevated. it said 29.5 µg/l and the range is (9-32). so vitamin b12 should not be the reason for the slight anemia.

i have been vegetarian the last 2 years and low fat vegan for the last two months with heaps of fruit but not entirely. i also take in quite a bit of greens but maybe now enough. i will try to take in more greens every day now. i take in approx. 3000 cals a day and do sports(skating, running, biking, track n field) every other day for about 1-3 hours.

of course the doctor said i should eat fish or meat but there should be another way to get the levels up into the normal range..

help of any kind would be much appreciated :)

have a great weekend

fabi

Did you have your iron studies done? When I was loosing iron my MCV and MCH suffered and were much smaller. Yours are good!

Maybe still get a B12 test done as well?

There are studies that indicate heart disease is linked to having too much iron stores as well as heme iron being linked with cancer.

They never count on the fact that the iron in the fruits has vitamin C to help absorb it. They just single out one nutrient and test its absorption alone.
