30 Bananas a Day!

Sooo I'm really loving this lifestyle, though I've only been on it for a little over two months(and definitely not 100% GRRR But I try! And I'm ALWAYS Vegan bc: animal products? yuck!) But anyway, I am really enjoying it, but I noticed that when I look back over what I've eaten in any given week, there isn't much variety. Which is okay with me personally, but I don't know how good that is for nutrition? Or digestion maybe?

I eat almost exclusively:

Bananas

Frozen Berries (for smoothies)

ORANGES (my staple. Can't get enough)

Apples

Baby Spinach

and Celery.

Annnnd that's about it. I'm not getting tired of these foods, they all taste very good to me, but I come on here and everyone is having such an abundance of fruits. Magnos, and plums, and grapes and durian, and watermelon....and I'm not. I don't know anything about fruit seasons or anything (all my fruit comes from the regular old supermarket, I don't know if they go by seasons or whatever?) but I am just wondering if this is okay? Am I doing something wrong?

I was thinking that my body just needs a pretty simple menu right now, and that when it needs more, it will start craving more. But I was just hoping to get some feedback. THANK YOU :)

Hi Celeste,

I don't know where you live, but I'm in Los Angeles and right now is a great time for mangos and all sorts of melons.

The important part of variety is not to eat lots of different fruits every day so much as to take advantage of and enjoy the fruits that are currently in season where you live.

So, while you may be getting good quality apples and grapes (and if so- good for you), the best season for those fruits tends to be in the fall. Likely the ones you're eating now have been stored from last year. Same with the citrus (oranges), but again, this also depends on where you're living.

Bananas are a great staple fruit, and I eat them year round. Same for dates, but I really love to eat dates the most in the fall and early winter when I can get them freshly harvested. there's just no comparison to the dried ones.

Berries are also beginning to be be abundant now, and should be good throughout the summer. Also peaches and plums and nectarines should be coming in soon.

But all of this aside, we all have to make do with what is available to us at any given time, which is what it sounds like you're doing. Just be sure to get enough calories and keep checking out the changing variety at the market.

Mono mealers and "islanders" like Freelee will advise you not to worry too much about variety. Our ancestors would not have had access to the variety of fruits that we do now, so different foods would have been spread out on a monthly/yearly rather than daily basis. If you feel these foods are working for you and you are getting your required nutrients (check cronometer) then it's probably fine.
