30 Bananas a Day!

For those who no-poo and use minimal body care products...

I know that a lot of people here on 30BAD use either none or minimal amounts of body care products...

I was wondering at what point in your journey you gave things up. Is it harder at the beginning? ... I am talking about skin becoming too dry, and hair becoming really gross. I have been working at 811 for over a year now, and I have not been perfect. I no longer need to use deodorant, or soap... However... I am having trouble ditching the shampoo. I have used Dr. bronners but it leaves an awful residue, does baking soda and water leave a residue?.. and my skin gets SOOOOO dry. I deff. should drink more water. But being one of those girls that has a lotion in every room, car, and bag.. I am having the most trouble with dry skin.

Anything I can use besides a really expensive organic lotion? (which I am already using) I really havent experimented much... but seeing all of those hair care threads lately, makes me wonder! ...

I have become a COMPLETE minimalist.. My boyfriend and I live in a 12x12 room! ...ALL of our belongings, including my blender and juicer, and all of our food is in it too! ... When we move into our own place this summer we can practically do it in 1 trip in my car! :) lovin it. Now ditching the 18 bottles of lotion I have, and not having to buy $12 organic shampoo would be WONDERFUL! :)

Wow. Your hair looks great.
thanks Che =)
gorgeous hair!
have you thought of getting a humidifier in your room? i think its a lot to do with climate. also wearing clothing that is tight might not help as it can dehydrate you. i don't really shower much now, just the essentials and i find this helps. it might take time, just keep with it and try to do the least amount possible!!

hope that helps,

julie~
drinking lots of water and keeping hydrated is key. I dont have a humidifier in my room but it would be nice. It gets dry up here in the winter with the heater cranking!
Check out my photos in the New England LFRV Potluck Photo thread. I have not used poo in 6 months. When going raw I cut the poo out, but it was a terrible idea in the beginning. Serious detox and junk happened through that area and my hair was greasy and stinky. Cant forget that I was also roofing and had shingles all in my hair all the time.

I shaved it all off and kept it short for a little while. When I felt like I was clean, I let it start growing out again. Its been growing for 8 months, and no products for 6.

No products what so ever. Maybe a hand brush every once in a while if I have some dirt that doesnt want to come out of my nails and I have to go look spiffy
For me it really makes a difference that I rinse my hair (just showering) and massage the scalp.
One thing that amazed me was the fact that lotion only makes it so you need more lotion. First i stopped using lotion and starting using pure oils(olive, almond) but I still had dry skin at the end of the day. I thought I could never give up moisturizers. When I did finally decide to stop all together it took about 2 weeks for my skin to become normal. Now it is not dry and I do not use any moisturizers. Give it a try.

Try doing bentonite clay hair masks. I gave up shampoo about a year ago, using baking soda and ACV. Then I switched to bentonite clay, and now finally water only. Transition is key.

Coconut oil is by far the best single thing that I use for beautiful skin. I do make my own lotions, but you can use coconut oil by itself. Use it at night if you're oily, and by morning your skin will be dewey but not greasy :)

Also, try the oil cleansing method for deep cleansing your facial skin. Just google OCM, it is AMAZING and my skin is so soft and clear after using it, and all you need is hot water, oils, and a washcloth.

I am trying to stop using shampoo, too. Started about 10 days ago, listening to Chris Randall's interview on the Brilliant Body Summit inspired me a lot. I am using lemon juice (I normally juice 2 lemons for each time) and i spread it on my scalp mainly. It seems that I will need to wash my hair like this twice a week to start with, hopefully will be able to reduce it soon.

Do u think i should use only one lemon and dissolve it in water be4 putting it on my hair? I am just thinking if lemon might be too strong as such? Dont wanna be doing any damage...
