I ate a pound of juicy, ripe figs after work today and the skins started to burn my mouth at about the sixth or seventh fig. What causes this to happen and how can I minimize the effect?
Thanks Bananer Heads!

Permalink Reply by RawPeruana on September 18, 2011 at 3:26pm this also happens to me ! Ever since being high fruit and raw. I bought some last week and ate about 5...last one really hurt my tongue. They were incredibly sweet and organic and delicious and gooey and soo soft !! But I looked at the skin closely and you can see some white rough stuff on it.
Same with today's fig I had...I had 1 at the farmer's market (think it was non organic) and I could already feel my tongue being scraped or whatever.
I wish I wish I wish I could stuff myself on them !
I'm going to try eating them without the skin...have you tried this?
I wish I wish I wish I could too! :(
No, I haven't tried eating them without the skins but that sounds like a good idea. Thank you! =^.^=
The next day my tongue was still aching. I took a look in the mirror and there was blood! Bitterfigs!!

Permalink Reply by FruitZen on September 19, 2011 at 7:21am There's a great purple fig tree near my house and I ate probably 10 pounds this summer. The trick is to eat the inside first before the rough outside. You can break them in half and have the soft part touch your tongue or roof of your mouth, or whatever is feeling raw.
This happens is you eat a lot of figs even if they are fully ripe. You just got to get better at eating them. =)
OH, I see. Well, I work very hard at improving my fig eating skills :P
