30 Bananas a Day!

So I was at walmart with a buddy one day hanging out and shopping for suspenders when it hit me. I got overwhelmed with a craving for bananas, you know what I'm talking about. Anyway I didn't think walmart bananas could be that much different then organic ones but I was wrong! I could only eat half of a banana until I finally through the rest out, definitely learned my lesson.

Why is that?

Dunno.  I guess that's our government's way of protecting us from food-borne disease.

I may stand corrected.  I thought it was all imported produce, but I guess that may not be the case.

isn't it just conventional produce that is irradiated? my organic medjools from cali say that it's illegal to irradiate organic produce under us law or something. can't remember exactly. maybe i need more carbs ;)

If they're from cali, they don't cross the border, so yours are probably not irradiated.  But as AK pointed out, it's possible that organics are not irradiated even when crossing border, so who knows!

i forgot to mention that i live in the can :) it was on the box of dates i ordered from the bautista family. conventional produce seeds rarely sprout, and organic ones sprout more often than not in my experience.

Yes, organics are never irradiated in Canada.

I've bought them when I was desperate... but even though they were "Del Monte" bananas- they took forever to ripen, and were small and skinny- compared with the bananas I could get at my regular grocer. Which was odd, but what have you.

Were the ones you bought organic?

The organic ones I've bought from walmart are okay.  They seem to bruise somewhat easily (?).  Come to think of it, they don't taste very good...  sweet, but kind of weird and almost overly sweet (here in kansas.)

The conventional ones from walmart seemed to taste better, though I could have been tripping.  (not really)

Btw, that first sentence in the op is my favorite of all I've read here.  ..and I'm curious if you found suspenders in walmart?

The WalMarts in my region do not carry organic bananas or apples, but they do have organic romaine lettuce and organic potatoes.

Fresh produce in Walmart? There's none of that here in Canada. All they sell is packaged foods. I heard they might start getting some though..

Ya, the big walmarts sell produce and they call 'em super walmarts... In the US, they weren't that common, but now most of them I think are super walmarts here..
