30 Bananas a Day!

In the dates I ordered a while back (they are really good dates) when I cut them open, in about 1/3 of them I find little eggs.  I'm a little bit of a squeamish so I've just been tossing those.

But I don't like wasting so many dates.  Should I just scrape the eggs out and eat them?  Is anybody else finding the same thing in their dates?  What do you do about it?

They must've started hatching or  something, because yesterday, in 3 of the dates, worms popped out!  They were very wiggly!  I must admit, I was a girl about it and started screaming when the first one did.  I was more just surprised as much as anything.  My roommates weren't up yet, and wanted to know what all the commotion was about.  This did NOT seem to entice them to try my weird diet...lol
I am real happy to be eating food that hasn't been sprayed/killed to death so that it's all dead and gross and nothing can live in it.  Those worms seemed to have PLENTY of energy!  They popped out and started cruising real fast across the cutting board.  I had to be fast (whilst screaming) to catch them and put them outside!
Does anybody know what these eggs/worms are?  What do they grow up to be?

Haha, awesome.  Although it's like $40 worth of dates, so I don't want to throw them out.

Have you found dates without anything inside them?  Where did you buy them?

I love your profile pic!  Is that really you?  Did you get studio shots done with fruit?  that's pretty rad.

I too had a shipment of dates recently ( last month) from a very good source and all 10lb had  worms...or enough to gross me out about the rest.

I tried to look at it that they're not sprayed, etc and think like a primate or other natural healthy creature. I was totally turned off to dates for a few days though and bummed about the $40 loss....

Now I NEVER just pop a date in my mouth without biting in to check first. Kinda weirds me out how long I just munched away without a thought : )

who did you get them from?

yeah, I had some pitted dates that I never checked...just threw em' in the blender!

Can you post a picture?
haha..don't want to gross people out on dates unnecessarily.  I'm worried I've already done too much of that :-)
oh, you mean the eggs?  Maybe I will.  That's not too gross, I don't think.  They just look like little specks.

So we have a couple votes for throw 'em out, any other voters?

Here's what I'm starting to think: there's bugs all over produce while it's growing.  When I'm out in the garden, there's all sorts of bugs.  I'll wash eggs off my organic collard greens and just eat it without even sweating it.
