I simply love fruit! I also love greens! I love 80/10/10 and everything about it. My health has improved beyond my wildest dreams. And, I'm not through yet! LOL
Many in the 811rv community recommend a pound of greens a day. I am doing that in my juice feasting journey which ends in 2 weeks. I love green smoothies and my salads each night are legendary! I do have no problem with the pound of greens per day.
A dear friend of mine and 30BAD'r and 811rv of course! and I discussed the necessity of following that rule. I teach this as part of my mentoring to my students who are improving their health via the road to high carb/low fat. My friend is very well educated in the health and raw food movement and I value her sage wisdom. She doesn't feel it is a necessary part of a 811rv lifestyle. Again, I do value her viewpoints. I also love my pound of greens per day.
What is your take on this important part of a healthy low fat raw vegan diet?

I'll look to see any replies on your topic with interest...

Permalink Reply by ORGANIC811LFRV on May 9, 2012 at 4:03am I can't eat a pound of greens a day!! I buy the 1lb. Organics Brand pre-washed and cut greens at my local grocery store. It's too much for me. I don't have room in my stomach nor do I have the time but I do eat pretty big salads though. They're 1/2 pounders with plenty of cucumber, cilantro and cherry tomatoes. I eat a big salad usually 3 times a week. When I don't have time to sit and eat a salad I will have a greens/fruit smoothies and sometimes I just blend the salad and drink it.
I feel great but I need to do a little better with my greens intake but man it's hard sometimes. I like fruit too much.LOL

Permalink Reply by AJ on May 9, 2012 at 4:58am I second Yogaranka!! I usually put a couple handfuls in my smoothies during the day and then chow down as much as I can at night, but while I LOVE greens I do have trouble eating a full lb without taking away from the amount of fruit I eat earlier, which calorically I cannot afford to do.
Permalink Reply by Fruit fly on May 9, 2012 at 6:08pm Thank got I am not the only one, but I must say, in tropical country, I dont feel the tendency so much as the fruit is ripe?
My tip - buy 1lb container of greens (or mix your own).
Open the lid and put it on your desk next to your computer at your job or at home.
Use as chips.
Baby greens work best and you don't need to worry about cleaning your teeth from acids after munching on these.

Permalink Reply by Sweetfruitlover on May 9, 2012 at 7:40am I almost always eat at least a pound. Love my greens! I usually eat fruit for breakfast and lunch, and then have the large (well, huge, lol) salad at night. One large head of romaine is over a pound, so that's easy. With baby spring mix type greens, it can be challenging to get a whole pound in because they're so light that they take up more room than the salad bowl will hold unless I really compress them. I often mix my dinner fruit in with the greens to make my evening salad, but sometimes I prefer them separate. So I might prepare a bowl of whatever fruit I'm eating, and then just have the open container or box of spring mix next to it and eat those leaves with my hands as I go. It's fun, though it does leave my fingers stained.
Lately I've been super-into this salad: one large head of romaine, a large handful of arugula or bunch of cilantro, and several ataulfo mangoes. I toss the mango pieces with the greens and they make a really yummy dressing that needs no overt fats. The sweetness of the mango really balances the peppery zip of the arugula, and it's so delicious and satisfying. I've been having this every night lately, and I can't wait to have it again tonight!
