The more things I watch, the more devastation I see to this world, animals, other human beings, the control of the world population, the chosen ignorance and perpetuated ignorance via media and education - do you think there is actual hope for humans?
I love this world, and I love many other human beings. I love what we can do, the things people can create and the massive amounts of joy and love we can give to others.
But this is not the majority. Do you think there is real hope for us as a species, let alone all others, the world as a whole?
I don't want to be a downer, but the more I learn, the worse I feel in terms of a sustainable or possible future for the human race.
A big part of me wants to have children, and I am always happy when conscious people have babies - but what is the world really going to be like for them? Is there a point? Would having a child just be bringing them into a s***ty world?
I DO think that everything could change if the vast majority of humans changed - but in a world of 7 billion people, is that likely?
What is your view? Do you HONESTLY think things will ever get better, or are we all just doomed? I do not think that even if we ARE doomed that we should all just give up, obviously - I will live sustainably til the day I die and teach others and do whatever I can to spread the message.
I really hope I am wrong and that we are all going to have a massive shift in how we think - society really makes me sad. I really have no hope for society as a whole - but I think that as a species we COULD survive - at least us smarties...if we learn to care for ourselves and everything around us - and all the ignorant, selfish, gluttons will die off.
But still, what will be left? Decimated lands, oceans, air...I am overwhelmed with horror sometimes and feel like everything is really pointless - and other times I feel really vivacious and like anything could happen, like I could change the world.
Anyway, what do you think? I have just watched "Eating" and feel very down now, even though it's all information I've heard before. Every time I read or watch these kinds of things it makes me lose complete faith in humanity.

I always imagine that there will be a massive epidemic that will wipe out most of humanity.
Or a massive natural disaster, or a wave of natural disasters around the world like a domino effect.
Or that we will become so overpopulated that we will become infertile... You know, like when a woman is under stress and as a result becomes infertile... but on a mass scale. I've heard something about a study on mice/rats with that result. They just kept reproducing and became infertile because they got overpopulated. There's also a movie with a similar storyline.
I think there is hope for us. But I also think it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better. It will just take time.
Hold onto those feelings of hope. It is so important =)

Permalink Reply by Trevor Gates on April 1, 2012 at 9:38pm I think it will get worse before it gets better, and maybe much worse but I believe we are headed for a giant shift in global consciousness. Many(people, animals, plants) will probably not make it through the coming storms but there will be a rebirth and a new world. The best thing you can do is wake people up to the way you know is right and sustainable, and move far away from cities and other areas of large populations to live that way and ride out the storms. Have children and teach them the truth. They are the only chance we have to continue. It may seem like there is little hope but it has been said "every dark cloud has a silver lining". Here is an old native American prophecy on the subject:
"When the earth is ravaged and the animals are dying, a new tribe of people shall come unto the earth from many colors, classes, creeds, and who by their actions and deeds shall make the earth green again. They will be known as the warriors of the Rainbow"
There is hope. Be strong, and live long...
Love & Light
Wow! I love everything you just said, it gave me these pleasant chills all over. Beautiful <3 <3
Permalink Reply by VeganMermaid on April 1, 2012 at 10:09pm I feel the exact same way a lot of the time, and like Lauren said: hold on to those feelings of hope!! Without people like you and me, there is none. We are changing the world right now, even though it may be in the smallest way possible :) <3 hugs *
Permalink Reply by Macuilxochitl on April 1, 2012 at 10:19pm There's a lot of people who aren't really concerned about the fate of the planet and still make it a better place. I think these are the most authentic and reliable.
Not saying that you guys are doing it wrong, but we shouldn't forget about these others, either.
Permalink Reply by Rudy on May 1, 2012 at 11:35pm It is these people, if you are still on the topic of "poverty", that never had a choice in the matter. Unfortunately, being raised in an affluent society doesn't rear us to have a positive impact on the whole of things. We have to unlearn and relearn practically everything once we become conscious of the problems that our typical, daily choices perpetuate.
I agree with you on a point, however, that 'taking on the world' is a rather silly perspective. We must all realize our limits as well as our strengths in order to not be under the constant burden of having 'bitten off more than we can chew.'

I think there's a "perfect storm" brewing and its going to change this planet and the people who live here.
Permalink Reply by Sandy on April 2, 2012 at 9:58am Thanks for your thoughts Lorra really nice topic.. My input, I feel like we're in a time where we probably won't live long enough to see the world change completely, for the best.. but it's no less now, as we have a chance to be part of the change! which is pretty exciting and not easy. If we stop now then nothing will be achieved now or after our time..
I really can't see any single part of human living that is actually sustainable for us or the Earth.. We're fighting nature to control our destiny while creating a miserable existence for ourselves and the future of those to come..

your question:
do you think there is actual hope for humans?
is a good one.
more than that, it's an important one though it makes some people feel uncomfortable because it encourages awareness and responsibility. most people are content to place this 'burden' onto the shoulders of a very few and some people even take advantage of this apathy to 'get ahead' by exploiting and abusing what we should all be guardians for.
paul watson once pointed out that hominids were never a very successful species and the oppressed are just wannabe oppressors. your species (in present behavioral modality) hasn't been here very long, yet within its short span of 50,000 yrs has managed to engage in more self-glorifying verbosity than all other lifeforms put together throughout the history of the planet. such lack of humility is not a good prescription for survival much less success.
however, the answer to your question is that there is always hope.
however, you'll have to read this post in order to see just why:
