I would like to know, what else can I do with dates? I have some dried dates and they have been sitting in my fridge forever. I don't know I feel like dates are more like candy the way they taste than fruit. Are there any good recipes out there for dates?

Dates, mangos, basil and green onions blended up make a delicious salad dressing or noodle sauce.
Permalink Reply by Evalina on March 8, 2012 at 11:46pm Thank you Sarah, I need to start getting more creative with my salad dresssings, and this seems perfect a little sweet and savory at the same time. I can do this with zucchini spiral noodles too. YUM!

Permalink Reply by Chris Califano on May 19, 2012 at 11:38pm The best use for dates is to "stoke" your smoothies in order to add more calories with less volume.
Personally I have to consume 3500-4500 calories per day depending on intensity periodization. Since I do not eat whole dates since they get stuck in my teeth and cause tooth decay (as all foods that stick there will easily promote & confine bacteria), I add up to a few dozen per day when I am relying on smoothies to get a lot of my fuel.
That is their most practical use.

Have you tried datorade? It's simple but really delicious :)
Also, I use dates to make raw apple pie which I love. Here's a link to the recipe on my website http://www.therawmonkey.com/raw-apple-pie/ You might want to soke your dates for a while first since they are dry ones that you have.
Have a good day,
Esperanza
Permalink Reply by Amanda Lily on May 20, 2012 at 2:17am Since you are using dried dates you will want to soak them for about 30min or until they are soft BEFORE putting them in a smoothie or sauce. If you don't then you will end up with unpleasant chunks in your food.
Another way to make this easier on yourself is to soak a bunch and then blend them with their soak water in the blender. You can then add this date sauce to smoothies and sauces as needed. The date sauce will last for several days in the fridge.

Permalink Reply by Sweetfruitlover on May 20, 2012 at 4:02am I soak them in water and then blend them up into datorade. So yummy. I also soak them and add them to other fruits in smoothies, or to fruits and greens for green smoothies. I especially love blended navel oranges and dates together, with or without greens. I've been wanting to try blending them with apples and cinnamon but I haven't tried that yet.
