30 Bananas a Day!

I've been wondering about this for years. Most of the time I eat something extra high in fruit sugars, like dates or mango, I get an excruciating upper back pain. It feels like someone clamps a vice between my shoulder blades and starts cranking away.

It happens about 5 to 10 minutes after consuming the food and it only last for about 5 to 10 minutes.

I've found that if I go lift weights right away it helps a lot. If I curl into a ball from the pain (which is what I used to do), sometimes I just become paralyzed and start crying and almost screaming because it hurts so bad. I can barely move once I'm stuck. So, lately I just start waving my arms around and try to keep moving. The pain is still horrific but the movement seems to help.

Does anyone, anyone at all have any idea of what this could be? I do not have health insurance but I also do not trust most doctors anyway. Other than these almost-daily, sometimes twice a day incidents, high-carb raw veganism works very well for me.

*** History: I was diagnosed (misdiagnosed, I believe) with fibromyalgia twelve years ago when I was 20.

Also, I've been hospitalized with a mysterious electrolyte loss multiple times where I need an IV of fluids immediately. A kidney specialist told me he didn't know why it happens to me every couple of years but that I'm not supposed to drink too much water and maybe I should put more salt on my food.

How much water do you drink a day?

I'm not too sure.

I do know that on a typical work day I bring along three or four Sigg bottles. I always bring my 40 oz. and usually two 32 oz. bottles. I drink probably 32 oz. before work and maybe about 48 oz. after work.

It seems like enough, no? Or is it too much? Although, lately I haven't been as thirsty.

No, that's not too much and I would aim for even more! Whatever is going on I would focus on getting plenty of sleep, some exercise, 3-4 liters of water (150oz) and at least 3000 cals. Avoid the sweeter fruit if it irritates you. Your body may need to heal, especially if you are new to this lifestyle and have abused your body in the past. It can take a good year or two depending on your circumstances to regenerate and balance out.

Yes, I used to drink quite a bit of wine as a vegan and high-gourmet raw vegan... I've been HCRV before but this is the only time I've stuck with it. I'm just in the first few months right now.

To get electrolytes, rather than "putting salt on your food" (lol) you should make sure you are eating enough greens.

The back pain happens to some people. When I eat too many dates too fast, I get the same pain. Not quite as bad, but it feels like knives in my kidneys.

I don't know exactly what it is, but I know that staying super-hydrated helps, and staying away from too many dates/etc also helps. I'm assuming that whatever it is, it will eventually heal itself, so long as I do not exacerbate the problem by eating huge mono-meals of things that are inflammatory i.e. dates.

Hey, it could be mineral deficiencies causing the problem. I certainly don't eat enough greens - I'm working my way up there though.

Yeah, I eat HUGE salads at night. I actually really like them... :0)

Have you tried foam rolling and/or massage?  You could have metabolic waste trapped up there.  Just a guess.  This would be a good question to ask Dr. Graham directly.

I have tried both, yes. Right now, my only solution is exercise. I guess that's not necessarily a bad thing!

I get pains and sick when i eat dates. maybe its a date thing. When the fruit is TOO sweet (too sweet for me at least) Ie: dates, i get upper back pain between my shoulder blades (almost like indigestion) and migraine headaches. .. good luck. I would stick to removing dates for now and maybe adding them in later when you feel like you are more on track with 811rv

Thanks for your replies, everyone!!!
