30 Bananas a Day!

My partner has gotten small flat white canker sores in his mouth all his life. After going 80/10/10 he developed a huge inflamed painful one on the inside of his lip. He's worried all the fruit is irritating it further and is not sure what to do. What do you think?

Thanks!

I did see an increase of canker sores when I switch to HCRV, I think the citrus fruit was the main reason for me.
What I did was neutralize the acid after every meal I ate (not just citrus), by either brushing my teeth with toothpaste or rinsing with water.
This is working so far.

Hi Ruby,

When I started increasing my fruit (about three weeks ago) I developed two canker sores in my mouth. They hurt like a MOFO when I ate my salads. the acid in the fruit would irritate them too. I wasn't sure if the increase in fruit caused my canker sores, or because of the increase in temperature. I live in Washington (whidbey island) and it recently just started to feel like summer. Before the HCRV diet I would always get canker sores when there was an extreme weather/temp change... like transitions from fall to winter, or spring to summer...? but I was breaking out as well when I had the canker sores....

so I'm guessing it the canker sores were a result of both..maybe? the increase in fruit and temperature change for me. I had the canker sores for about a week and they went away so did my breakouts! I've been doing HCRV for 10 weeks now, and I was 75% raw vegan since Jan 2012.

Since September 2010 I did the acid/alkaline (80% alkaline foods) diet until I became 75% raw.

We also live in Washington (Port Townsend). I'll ask him about temperature changes. It's been a few weeks now and they just seem to be getting worse. You didn't put anything on them to help them heal or decrease pain?

No, i didn't put anything on them to decrease pain or speed up the healing process. I was thinking of gargling with warm water and sea salt.. but I was busy and I forgot about it. Plus, I thought..well my diet is pretty clean, just eating veggies and fruit for the most part.. my body should heal the canker sores when its ready!

Nice to know that you are from Washington! You are not too far from me. I live in Whidbey Island Oak Harbor!

Acidic fruit (citrus/tomatoes) and strawberries are typically listed as potential causes of mouth ulcers.

I've had success switching to a toothpaste without sodium laureth sulphate, so he could try that?
