Permalink Reply by Jared Six on June 13, 2012 at 7:53pm I haven't eaten any corn in probably close to 5 years now, but I certainly would eat some corn if I could simply find some corn that wasn't so "messed with" so to speak...
I tried growing organic corn in my garden last year and I was so excited when I saw how fast the corn stalks were growing, but then one morning I went out into my garden and all of the corn plants were laying on the ground and all of the ears of corn were missing, so something got to them before I had a chance to even try it.
I miss corn a lot when I see it at the grocery store this time of year, but it's all conventionally grown and I simply wouldn't feel safe eating it now. Thank you for sharing this picture! It will help ensure that I don't decide to buy some corn from the supermarket just so I can eat corn again.
If it takes me 5 more years before I find some decent corn again so be it.

Permalink Reply by Peter Csere on June 14, 2012 at 2:17am Nope. Just because he is a local farmer and the corn tastes good doesn't mean it's not GMO.

Permalink Reply by Peter Csere on June 14, 2012 at 2:19am Lol. "But I only eat organic corn!"
Well, 10% or more of the organic corn you eat has been contaminated by GM corn pollination. There is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY to avoid GM corn except by NOT EATING CORN AT ALL until the earth is completely rid of GM corn.
Permalink Reply by vegan witch Ⓥ on June 14, 2012 at 10:23am yes, peter, how can one know something is GM or not - we cant so im choosing not to eat corn at all.

Personally I am skeptical of corn, and view it more as a grain.
I look for things that not only make us healthy long term, but what is healthy for the environment. Long term, corn is not sustainable in maintaining topsoil. I am looking more for tree based permaculture types of crops to sustain us and the earth.

Permalink Reply by vegan witch Ⓥ on June 14, 2012 at 10:21am hahaha PK - thats because in truth, corn is the corn seed (grain) of the corn plant.
as we both know, mother nature protects all its seeds with things like enzyeme blockers / inhibitors etc saying we should not digest it.

Permalink Reply by Kimber on June 14, 2012 at 11:38am Eewww, This should be illegal. Dang, this makes me so angry! I stopped eating raw corn last year since the last time I ate it, it gave me a horrible stomach ache. I had summed it up to all of the GMO that is going on with the corn. I'm glad I haven't touched it since. I totally don't trust corn anymore. I don't want all that stuff in my DNA.
