30 Bananas a Day!

I've heard some people say it's hard to eat more fruit because fruit is so expensive, even those who have plenty of money to spend a little extra on fruit. But is fruit really that expensive? Bananas are down to 49 cents a pound and I went to a local fruit orchard today and bought 18 lbs of persimmons for $9.  50 cents a pound! Fresh dates from Bautista aren't even that expensive when you take into account that shipping is included in the price. And if you know your local fruit trees that others are unaware you can find treasures such as 20 lbs of pineapple guavas for free.

So what do fruit prices look like for the rest of y'all?

I live in Wisconsin too. Definitely going to try to work with my grocer for good prices on discount produce. He mentioned they throw a lot of citrus since it's a common item and they have a lot, which really excites me, because I crave high-water content fruits when eating mostly bananas and dates but otherwise can't afford much of it. Mangoes are 1.29 a piece for me, so if I could get a nice discount on those I'd be a happy boy; they're so easy to devour.

kiwifruit free or 39cents a kg

apples 60cents a kg

pears 1dollar a kg

2.30 a kg organic bananas bought in a box

mandarins 1.50kg

Dates 100dollars for 5kg

Cheriymoyas 5dollars a kg

Mangos 1 dollar each

Oranges 1 dollar a kg

Auckland, New Zealand one kg is 2.2 pounds. New Zealand dollar 80 cents to an American dollar

I see that kiwis and apples are particularly cheap in Auckland (so kiwis should be cheap in NZ!) and overall it does appear more than afforable to eat plenty of fruit. I suspect in the larger cities in NZ it's easier to buy a greater variety of fruit and lower prices.

After being banned from Australia for 90 years New Zealand grown apples can now be imported into Australia . I haven't come across any New Zealand grown apples so far.

Yes, some of time, you can get Kiwifruit for free as 40% that are picked do not make it to market. Just need to be in the know which once people realise the quanity we eat them in that seems to help. But if not, they are the cheapest fruit to buy.

Apples ah, people who have had both so they like the crunch of the nz apple, a colder climate does produce that.

It is interesting to compare isn't it. I'm jeolous of your ease of getting tropical fruit. You should get a a good mango crop I here. Yum I do hope they get here too.

Bananas $12.99 kilo (just came down to $4.99kilo)
