LOTS of fruit stands around here.
Don't know if you are in norcal or socal?

Permalink Reply by lahna vanderbush on April 27, 2012 at 11:59am i live in the south bay in san jose. i think i read that there is a farmer's mrkt in santa cruz that is good. might check that out. there is a downtown market here in town, but its more of an attraction. but you can still find good deals if you look. i am on a super tight budget ( my career is notorious for small paychecks!!) so im always looking for something better/ less expensive
Permalink Reply by Sanazberries on April 27, 2012 at 12:08pm Pretty sure there are organic farms around there! Even closer than santa cruz.
Permalink Reply by Francesca on April 27, 2012 at 1:52pm Howdy! I live in Santa Cruz, and the farmer's markets here are bomb, and there are several, year round! But I recommend a wholesaler in your area. Google it.
Permalink Reply by Van Boughner on April 28, 2012 at 7:08am I live in Santa Cruz as well, I love the farmers market at Cabrillo College on Saturday mornings. Also the flea market is a great place to get good prices on mango, oranges, bananas, pineapples, etc. I even found jackfruit there once. The Mexican fruit and veggie vendors bring in pretty good stuff and offer the lowest prices around, especially if you buy a lot, they'll give you a deal.
Every week I also order boxes of fruit from the Capitola Village Produce store. I made friends with the owner (easy to do once he notices you buying a lot of fruit at his store) and he gives me a great deal when buying fruit by the case.
Good berries are easy to get around here because so much of it grows in nearby Watsonville. I visited Boston a couple of months ago and found strawberries on sale in Boston that came from Watsonville, he he!
Permalink Reply by Assis Hou on April 27, 2012 at 4:18pm Santa Cruz is too far. There is one in Fremont at Newpark mall parking lot every Sunday. I always get my fruits and some veges from there. If you go there around 12:30 to 1:00 the price always drops from 25-50 cents per pound. I got 50 pounds of apple for only 10 bucks sometimes just 8 bucks. You can always bargain the price if you buy a lot. Those apples might not look pretty from the outside but who cares. I sorted them out into three categories: 1. Juice-right-away 2. cut&frozen-in-bag 3. great-shape-in-fridge.
Permalink Reply by Yulia on April 27, 2012 at 10:59am I'm from Temecula. I buy my stuff at Farmers Market. $30 for 11 lb of dates and $30 for a big box of fruits. I purchase fruit from the same farmer all the time, so he gives me a lot of extra stuff; like a bag of grapefruits and some extra apples. Last week he also gave me about 10 avocados)) I gave away half of them to my friend))
