I saw that too on my local newspaper website while I was at work. I brought it up to some co- workers who were gathered around for lunch and I was saying how good it was for Bell since calf roping was barbaric and cruel and the only reply I got was from two of them piping up saying "I can't agree ... I've done it before ... bla bla bla". I was shocked. I didn't even know that sort of stuff when on in my province and they were both women to boot. I tried to explain how I thought it was cruel but only one of the girls said how she could see my point ... Ugh.

| Video: Calf Brutalized at 2012 Reno Rodeo |
| Dear Friends, SHARK has just released a new video focusing on a calf that was brutalized at the 2012 Reno Rodeo in Reno, Nevada. You can see how horrifically twisted the calf's neck is, and how, even though the rodeo thug knew the animal was injured, he pressed down on his neck even harder. Not only was the neck of this innocent animal broken, but his right rear leg snapped when he hit the ground, forcing bone right through the skin. This was no accident. This is rodeo. | Columnist: Is Rodeo a Sport or is it Animal Cruelty? |
| Columnist Carol McAlice Currie, of the Statesman Journal of Salem, Oregon, wrote a great piece on rodeos called "Is rodeo a sport or is it animal cruelty?" Please check it out and leave a comment. |
Kindest Regards, Steve Hindi and Your SHARK Team "Kindness and compassion towards all living beings is a mark of a civilized society. Racism, economic deprival, dog fighting and cock fighting, bullfighting and rodeos are all cut from the same fabric: violence. Only when we have become nonviolent towards all life will we have learned to live well ourselves." - Cesar Chavez, civil rights and labor leader, founder of the United Farm Workers

I was recently in Calgary for work and was disgusted at the hoopla over this event. Some brave souls did protest but for most it is just another excuse to get drunk and watch grown monsters abuse other beings. It is incredible how this is endorsed and celebrated. Actually incredible is not the right word insane would probably be the more appropriate one.
The crocodile tears from the abuser who's horses died in a race was beyond pathetic. " I loved those horse like family" he say's hoky smokes you should be locked up if you would treat your family like that but they get away with such BS or at least the morons they do.
"Many horses don't even make it as far as the fairgrounds. A recent Alberta Views exposé revealed Stampede officials admit horses who don't make the cut to compete are sent to a slaughterhouse in Fort Macleod."

You being in that area what is the general reception of this event?
From my experience it seems to be well received by the locals and endorsed. I am curious to know your experiences.
Yet these lunatics cheer it on and now are trying to blame something else on there insane behavior.
Having been in the city during the event you can really get a feel how dangerous stupid traditions and rituals can be.
