30 Bananas a Day!

Has anyone else experienced a burning sensation on the tongue/mouth after having banana smoothies?
I made sure the bananas today were quite speckled with brown spots (I thought that maybe they were too unripe before), and that I put fewer in the vitamix (I thought maybe it was too concentrated before) but still am having the burning sensation and tho hungry, I couldn't finish the smoothie. I used to love bananas but seem to be going off them just now.
Any ideas as they really are a big chunk of my calories??
All the best

that's odd, soap/detergent you're using to clean container perhaps? does eating whole yield same result?
Ive noticed this also. My bananas are perfectly ripe too. It only happens with bananas, no other fruit. Its like a slight burning in my throat just when im drinking them. I cant eat more than a couple whole ones so im into the smoothies too. I wondered if I was just sensitive to them or something.
Were they organic my friend? That has happened to me before with non-organic bananas though since I have stopped using a blender, I have yet to have it happen again (I simply much them up with a spoon now. It actually tastes a lot better.)

Hope this helps :D
Thanks for the replies.
I have been rather suspect over the last of bananas being organic.... I feel that they were only fair trade not fair trade and organic. This could be the reason.
I had previously been eating them chopped up and they were fine but I've always found that blendered foods don't taste as good to me as whole foods I wondered if the actual blending changes something (other than the texture). I also think my taste buds are changing, I used to really enjoy bananas but not so much now (actually lot of the fruits I used to enjoy don't seem so tasty this past couple of weeks).
Guess I will make double sure that the next batch are organic and take it from there.

About blending. Sorry to bring you the bad news. It broke my heart too :P
I struggle to eat low quality bananas. I dont get a sore mouth but the taste is usually pretty rank. Sometimes you get good ones but its rare. I find the difference between organic and conventional is great.

When I used to eat salt & vinegar chips, my mouth hurt slightly for 2 days at least. It never stopped me though!
don't even talk about those damn salt & vinegar chips! I used to tear those up with a pint! now it's a pint of banana smoothie :)
Yeah I used to have a sore mouth for days and hypoglycemia symptoms but I was so hungry I didnt really care.

If eating bananas gave me a sore mouth to get all the other benefits they give me, Id stil eat em.
Depends if the sore mouth was caused by oxidation though Harley. I learned that lesson a couple of months ago when I force fed myself oxidised bananas because it was all I had in the house: Consequence - headache for 4 hours followed by vomiting.

All symptoms should have their cause identified and responded to adequately, rather than just ignoring the body. Otherwise we can cause damage. If the cause is oxidation, this must be avoided. Oxidation is an indication of free radical damage, which can cause carcinogenic changes to cells at worst.

what do you mean by "oxidized bananas"?

nevermind, I just saw your other comment :) that'll teach me to comment before reading.

Sounds like they oxidised. This can happen if we overblend the smoothies, or blend them incorrectly. Try mashing the bananas down first with a rolling pin or blending stick if you have one. This can minimise the amount of water you need to use, and the amount of blending you need to do. Then pulse, rather than blending. Pulse as few times as possible to get to a liquid consistency. Try eating the bananas to see whether you still get the burning sensation.

i would agree with Adam - everytime I "overblend" my banana smoothies, i get the same tingling sensation from nanna smoothies.... good tips, adam!
