Does chewing destroy nutrients? I think not.
Permalink Reply by Macuilxochitl on May 13, 2012 at 2:43am Well, you can spit in your smoothies, maybe your blender even digests them for you, huh?
I eat two blended green smoothies a day!!! I also have read it is not different than chewing.
Permalink Reply by AJ on May 13, 2012 at 3:41am I've gone days at a time eating nothing but blended fruit except for my evening salad. It's so much easier, especially if I have to eat on the go. I say do it up =]
Permalink Reply by Analucia S. on May 13, 2012 at 5:37am I think blending is great. It helps me eat much more than I would otherwise, and in less time.
Is it oxidation that you're worried about? Oxidation isn't really a concern with a blender, IMO. If you want more info, check out Green Smoothie Revolution by Victoria Boutenko (wherein she addresses that concern, and backs up her opinions with those of scientists.) Oxidation is much more of a concern with JUICING.
Honestly, the only things that would concern me about blending is if I was only eating blended foods. Chewing is important for health (jaw health, tooth health, ear health, etc.) Some folks find that they don't digest blended foods quite as well, but I do great with them. (I think the concern there is not so much with digestion, as with elimination.)

I say 'cheating' because nature can't be cheated on. If your body can't hold much whole food or w/e, it's for a reason, and going the easy route by just blending won't change anything for better.

Permalink Reply by Macuilxochitl on May 16, 2012 at 7:24am What I say is that maybe your stomach has a limited capacity not because of the space available (after all, you can force down way more volume of food by blending), but because that is just the right amount of food it can appropriately digest and assimilate at a time. If you put in more than that limit, how is it going to deal with it properly? Pretty convinced it can't.
You can accustom your stomach to eating bigger quantities of food, but you gotta actually eat it. When I started out, five bananas is as much as I could have per meal, but just two weeks later, I could eat twelve without problem and still have room for more.
So, my point is that easy doesn't always equal to good, especially when you get stuck on it. Many things that seem hard at first turn out to be way more effective, efficient or even (oh, the irony) easier in the end. But of course, how you gonna know if you never ever go there.
Permalink Reply by Analucia S. on May 16, 2012 at 7:47am My issue isn't stomach capacity. I don't enjoy my food enough to eat what I need without blending, at least as far as most foods go.
I usually have a giant green smoothie for breakfast, dates for lunch, and dinner varies but is rarely blended. I generally only blend my breakfast.
Permalink Reply by Macuilxochitl on May 16, 2012 at 7:53am Yeh, inorite, people use blending for masking tastes all the time. Thanks God I find fruit delicious. Now I gotta work on the greens :o)
Permalink Reply by Analucia S. on May 16, 2012 at 7:55am I find the fruit that's out of my budget delicious! I think I burned out on the fruits that I can afford, and now I only want a few bites before I'm done.
Green smoothies helped me to enjoy greens without salt and fat. Maybe you could try that?
Permalink Reply by Macuilxochitl on May 16, 2012 at 7:58am I actually wanna start chewing them greens :) been smoothying them way too long for now, and I think I'm missing out on the benefits.
