I meet a wonan who eats raw and is experienced with traveling in asia. She told me, thai people put bleach on the young coconuts after they peeled the green away
So if the coconut is peeled and cutted like that, they put bleach on.
Just to let you know...Take care!!
All best wishes, Love and peace!

I think, its not ok to put a chemical on a coconut to keep it looking white. They want the people to think, that the coconut is freshly cutted, even if its a week old. These people cheat and i dont like the use of chemicals, it goes to the groundwater when the coconut gets rotten.
Permalink Reply by Wendy Harvey on June 25, 2012 at 9:11am these coconuts seem to do more harm to me than good. all that sugary taste seems unnatural... i dont know if its the chemicals or crossbreeding or what, but i dont touch them anymore
Permalink Reply by Clara on June 25, 2012 at 9:41am The last time I bought one I was smelling it and I knew I smelled something weird and chemically on it!!! I haven't bought any since...
Permalink Reply by Rawmacita Apryl Electra on June 25, 2012 at 10:07am I've heard worse... FORMALDEHYDE! Yikes! Irradiated, bleached, dipped in formaldehyde... Hey, if you're going to consume it, at least know! Right?
Regardless, I think coconuts are overrated. Don't believe the hype!
