I have started buying organic bananas from the brand Dole but have been finding a lot of tiny white/transparent worms (3-5mm long) in over 60-70% of the bananas. The bananas don't look damaged from the outside, but once you open them, you see brown spots and usually there are worms squiggling around.
I know that they are harmless even if I eat them but it just freaks me out a little.
I'm ripening them outdoors in opened cardboard boxes. Is there any way to prevent this from happening? has anyone experienced this with Dole brand bananas? I notice that there are these big flies that are always crawling on the bananas, are they laying eggs in the bananas?
The bananas are definitely not overripe and fermenting. Would appreciate all your replies!

except when I buy the bananas they are allready covered in bugs...
so any ideas how to get the bugs off - any natural fruit flu deterrents?
