just started a limited form of the diet last week. i make a lot of banana smoothies to get my calories. i've noticed that every time i have a banana smoothie, my stomach starts cramping painfully for about 15-20 mins. the internet says it is an intolerance.
has anyone had experience with this? does it go away over time? is it damaging? how the heck else would i get so many calories every day without bananas? this is a bit frustrating!
Could just be like Ednshell said; Food is already digesting in your stomach, or your digestive transit time has not yet sped up enough (ie. you are going for a poo less than 3 times per day) so the sugars are fermenting in your colon.
If worst comes to it, try and find another fruit to use as a staple.
Whenever I eat bananas I break out with tiny white heads on my face and also get a small rash like symptom on my cheeks. Ever since I eliminated them from my diet, I feel much better. I looked into and read that some people are allergic to them and if you're intolerant to bananas you may also have issues with melons, peppers, and cucumbers. Which is another interesting point because I feel weird when I eat cantaloupes and honey dew melons.
Lately I've been thriving on dates, grapes, papaya, oranges, and lettuce.
that's good info, fellas. my transit time is currently way slow. bananas may not be helping.... i've heard mixed reviews about how they might contribute to constipation. fernando, it never really occurred to me that i might have different reactions to all kinds of different foods, and that i might be able to find a group of foods to thrive on. did you just eat a bunch of mono meals and note your reactions? that might be a worthwhile exercise.
i eat dates a few days a week... i might want to eat more of those, lots of calories.... i've heard tho they are contra-indicated for candida, but it's worth a try.
ednshell, you are the winner with the first correct answer! i started eating my banana smoothie as my first meal, and low and behold the gas pains are all but gone. i am assuming that most of the problem was probably bananas interacting with my last meal. i guess i will eat bananas first now. it makes sense because they are extremely easily digestible, altho i am used to the meal with the most calories being lunch or dinner. minor adjustment, no big deal. it might even help me to add more calories in later in the day like i want to do.
