I'm at a crossroads in my life and would appreciate any input, information, contacts ...
I've recently detoxed from alcohol and, now that my mind is clearer, my attention has moved to my life. I don't want to remain in my job, I want to get out there and do something I enjoy and brings me peace and satisfaction. I want to live my life.
Problem is that I'm lacking the confidence and I'm really not much of a people person. That's not to say I don't get along with others but that I'm shy and don't have the attention span to hold conversations or retain knowledge in order to have great conversations (did I just admit to that?) Oh well, always pays to be honest :o)
I called work yesterday and asked for enquiries to be made about me taking a year out (they've not got back to me yet), and I don't want to start on a massive research mission until I know their answer. That way, if things don't work out for me, I can go back to work in order to pay my bills.
I'll be looking to volunteer either getting a community up and running or help out on an existing one. I like to just get on with a job, help others and be satisfied. I work hard and through my own initiative.
Like I said, I'm waiting for my workplace to get back to me about the year off, but thought I'd throw some feelers out on this site as a preliminary measure.
My wage sees me through the month and I don't have any savings, so I'm not looking for somewhere that needs investment or is pricey to be.
Does anyone know of anyone who wants help>
All feedback welcomed.
I think where most people get stuck on the, "I want to help and change the world--how do I do it?!" is a lack of specificity. So in this case...
What do you want to do?
What are your skills?
What type of day would make you happiest?
What's your ideal work environment?
What's your ideal geographical environment (tropical, European, etc)?
Helping a community/family/individual on their land/building
My job is in business support. I haven't got any other particular skills BUT I'm pretty much an all-rounder and will try anything. I'm happier when doing manual work.
A successful day is very satisfying.
A day not too hot or too cold maximises the amount of work that can be done, so a mild climate would be ideal.
Due to finances, Europe would be preferable.
