30 Bananas a Day!

I recently came across Zoe Harcombe and am appalled that she keeps tellign parents not to give children fruit AT ALL!!

She says many stupid things like "meat gives you more vitamins than fruit" "fruit is not healthy" "fruit is low in nutrients"

I am not one for ranting about other peopel but this idiot has written several books and is in the media a lot about this, so basically peopel are goign to suffer because she tells them to dritch the fruit and eat animals instead.

I don't underastand how she can drew these conclusiosn when analysis of obese peopel's diets show up time and time again as being made of high-fat junk food and nofruit at all.

Where does she get off preachign these lies?

There cannot be a living person that actually belives meat has more vitamins then fruit... hehe just input it in any meter, like cronometer and anyone will see =)

I have a suspicion that her father or mother is involved in politics ;)

I didn't read the article, but the title... fruit is fueling the obesity epidemic (she spelling fuelling incorrectly) is enough for me.

Fat people in america... don't eat ANY fruit.

No use in fighting these people.  All we can do is spread our message and continue to set a good example.  Eventually frauds like these will die off be found out.

Yup, sugar is bad... The crazy thing is, I remember thinking this was wisdom many years ago. Like I'd be at a company picnic eating fried chicken but didn't want any watermelon because it has "too much sugar".... Yeah, well that got me obese, high blood pressure, gout, constant aches and pains, great diet plan! :/

*sigh* well right I think what's probably important is to pout the truth out there and explain the relationship of dietary fat to sugar uptake (and hindrance of) in the cells, insulin, etc. Also important is to grasp and understand WHY going low carb DOES help a person loose weight, but also explain all of the downfalls of going that route and how eventually a person is going to either be calorie restricting, having low energy, etc OR they are going to be polluting themselves with all the waste from processing all that fat and protein, not to mention not getting enough fiber, vitamins and minerals.

Oh wow...that's a disturbing article. Especially for a newbie like me. I am still trying to string a few good days together and am constantly questioning if this way of life is good or right for me.

It certainly is strange that a nutritionist would say: "Working exclusively in the field of obesity, as I do, I am horrified by well intentioned parents trying to get 5-fruit-a-day into their children (fruit being an easier ‘sell’ than veg) when this is merely fuelling the obesity epidemic."

One more thing..I am chuckling to myself now as I remember that when my daughter was an infant and we started feeding her food. I was taught to introduce the vegetable mush first and then fruit later because if a child gets a taste for fruit first, they will never want the veggies...hmmm...right from the start of parenting I was being taught that fruit was a danger. Now I see that perhaps an infant would prefer fruit because that is what it is meant to eat??

Here's a question... why would human beings tastebuds be attracted by sweetness if we weren't supposed to eat fruit?  Carnivores, like cats, can't even taste sweet.  Mother Nature didn't give us those tastebuds to trick us into behaving badly.

:)

Really that quote just makes we want to scream.  I would love to see more parents feeding up their kids with fruit.  And you just don't see obese kids eating fruit, I challenge anybody to start looking.

Wow, her article really makes me really angry.  She definitely shouldn't be a nutritionist.  Sounds like she doesn't even know how many calories are in a piece of fruit.  She really doesn't have a clue of what she is talking about.  I can't believe she is blaming the obesity epidemic on a few pieces of fruit a day instead of the fast food nation that is popping up all over the world.  Hmmm, I wonder which is making people get fat quicker ... 5 apples or a 1000+ calorie hamburger with fries on top.  There were so many things wrong in her article it just blows me away.  Ugh.
