Hey guys!
I had bad skin before starting 811, but it got even worse since I am on this lifestyle for over 2 months. I have bad acne all over my face, back and upper body. I am make up and product free since starting this lifestyle and I am cutting back on all of my medication. I even stopped taking hayfever meds, even though my allergy keeps me up all night. I have my mind on my goals here. I have faith that eventually it will get better, it has improved drastically already. The acne though, hasn't improved at all. In fact, it is getting worse every day. Could it be the food I eat? I eat more or less the same fruits every day (mainly monomeals): Oranges for breakfast (5-10, depending on how hungry I am) Bananas, apples or pears for lunch (about a kg each) Another 1kg of apples, pears or bananas when I get hungry again, occasionally I snack on mangos, strawberries, and/or grapes, and for dinner I have a big salad of lettuce, tomatoes, bell peppers and cucumber. Could any of these foods make the acne worse? Should I cut back on any of these?
And of course, I try to drink a lot of water, 3l is the minimum amount I am aiming for.
Any help is greatly appreciated!! :) Thanks for reading!

I wouldn't be surprised if it was just detox though. For years I used to have the worst hayfever ever! I sneezed almost constantly sometimes and my eyes would itch, puff up, and water so much I basically couldn't do anything. I'd have to phone in sick to work sometimes. My hayfever totally cleared up from lfrv, so you can look forward to that.

Permalink Reply by Escapist on June 20, 2012 at 6:48am This sounds like something my man went through, he kept getting sick at the start of this year, we weren't sure why, but he deduced it was his body "readjusting" to the new lifestyle, his skin broke out and he had tiny head colds here and there, after a month or so it all cleared up and he has been fine ever since.
in my opinion it might just be your body ridding itself of any leftover nasty toxins from "before"
keep at it, don't give up drink lots of water and get a good sweat going once in a while if you don't already to help rid your body of those nasty SAD toxins. :)

Dangermouse - I think I will hold on for a few more days, and see if my skin clears up a little. I also still have a big pile of fruit that I need to finish before I can start banana island. (Hubby doesn't eat fruit... maybe once a week he'd eat an apple... I hope to be the good example here and influence him to eat more fruits and veggies There are pretty decorated fruit bowls all over the place, I am surprised he's not tempted to eat any of it)
Esra - reading your blog was very helpful. I am so happy for you that your acne problems are as good as gone! I will be there too one day :)
Escapist - I am glad that your hubby's skin cleared up after only a month! I will definitely not give up and will have patience and faith that it will work itself out.
Laura - Maybe it is the acid fruits that cause the acne... When I finished my fruit stock, I will cut them off my daily menu for a while, and see how it goes. But I will surely miss them, I crave them ALL the time!
I am really hoping it is just my skin detoxing, cause I feel really comfortable eating the fruits I am eating now. Cutting out one of these fruits out of my diet would make me really really sad :(

Permalink Reply by Escapist on July 9, 2012 at 2:11am good luck don't give up!!! it will be worth it in the end, my skin is clear on my face but every moon cycle my shoulders break out a tiny bit and it is frustrating but at least i can hide that hahaha
and from what you described it sounds like normal detox, just stick to fresh/raw/whole/healthy foods and you should be fine in a few weeks! :)
my body de-toxed FAST when i went through it, but in the first few months when i just went vegan my body didn't know what was going on my hormones were all twacked out and my skin was crazy then all the sudden...it cleared up, i re-focused...it was like a light turned on!
and i haven't gone back since! good luck keep up the good work

It did get better when I had my last period, but I started to get acne again a couple of days after. I have acne on my legs now too, it's really weird. It's no longer itchy, I just don't feel very comfortable. Other than that, it doesn't really bother me. I am just happy that the itch is gone. I tried cutting the oranges from my diet. I didn't really see a difference, then again, I didn't try for long. But I really missed my oranges ;) I will just keep on being patient and keep on doing what I am doing. Everything else going on in my life is going really really well, so I must be doing something right :)
Thanks for your support, everyone :)
Permalink Reply by Paul Biermann on July 9, 2012 at 2:43am I understand what your going through. I had acne all over my face for years. But I gave up my acne washes a while before going raw. Before I game them up I was washing my skin way to much which caused it to be really dry, and trained it to produce Way Too Much Oil. After I gained the sense to give them up my acne was terrible, and my skin and hair were really oily for the next 3 months. After that, my body readjusted it's cycles because it realized that it was producing too much oil. Then my skin normalized and it was better than before when I was using the washes (although still not cured). This is probably what is happening to your body; but it's happening in the same period that your detoxing - which as you've said is making it so much worse. The only thing you can do is wait it out, but you can help it along the way. Drink lots of water (5+ litres) it will help the detox. Don't take many warm showers, as this is very drying on the skin and hair, which will train your body to produce more oil than is nessicary. As for the specific foods you're eating, I think that's fine. Personally, I can't handle to eat too many apples because they have too much insoluble fiber in them and they don't work well with my intestines - which can affect acne. If you have no trouble with apples though, I see no reason to give them up. Good luck though :)
Permalink Reply by Escapist on July 9, 2012 at 5:17am Paul congrats on beating the acne! I wish I'd known about all this back in high school haha!
As for apples, oddly enough I use to purchase huge bulk boxes of apples from Kodiak and I'd go through them in 1-2 weeks and my acne cleared up, i always said it's because all the fiber was pulling out the nasties through the right end XD
