Hi guys!
I just got back home from a half-marathon! Fueled by 4 large bananas, 30 minutes before the run. I was energized throughout the entire race :)
Normally, after a race I would have intense cravings for sweets. Post race run meals were usually cakes, pies or pancakes, and for dinner I'd have a huge serving of spaghetti. Today, I had this HUGE craving for watermelon. I just finished eating an entire watermelon, and enjoyed every bite of it. Feels good :) The changes my body is making feels awesome and I feel so energetic and vibrant. I don't have cravings for cooked food, and don't feel like I am missing out on anything. I eat about 90% fruit, 10% veggies. I have a background of EDs (Binge eating disorder, then restricting cause of the weight gain) - lots of ppl here seem to - and am gradually increasing calories. I am eating a minimum of 3000 calories a day now, never feeling hungry and always feeling slightly full after meals.
Now to my questions, since I started increasing calories (when I had my ED, I used to eat 1000-1500 calories a day, then I got intense cravings and would eat 5000+ calories of junk in binge sessions) to 2500-3000 calories, my body got really swollen: fingers, arms, belly, legs, ... just like it would on binge sessions. I always thought this was from eating too much fat, but my fat intake is usually only about 7%. Is it normal that my body bloats up this much? Is it just my body's way of getting used to this new way of eating? If so, is this dangerous and how long does it take for my body to adjust?
I eat monomeals, every 2-3 hours, is it better to eat large amounts of food at a time and only 3 meals a day, or small amounts of food throughout the day?
Thanks for reading and hopefully someone can help, just want to do what's the best and healthiest for my body! Finally I can cure my poor body from all the abusing I did to it these past years!!

Permalink Reply by sprogy on May 20, 2012 at 11:57pm aaaahhh, the watermelon binge, that one is a classic! :) there is something almost poetic about building up a huge hunger, thirst and exhaustion with a long run and than gorging on a huge watermelon :)
in my experience three meals the best, especially teeth-wise, can't help you with the bloatings, since I didn't experience them after any one of my (supposedly former) binges
Permalink Reply by Nerada on May 21, 2012 at 12:07am Yes, you are right, that was the best feeling ever! :)
I'll try eating only 3 meals, which is hard for me, cause I love eating so much. This is a habit that's hard to get rid of. I eat up to 6 times a day. I eat when I am bored, stressed, happy, all the time really, ...
Permalink Reply by ORGANIC811LFRV on May 20, 2012 at 11:59pm Congratulations on your successes! I'm starting my training today to walk a 1/2 marathon. I finally got my health in order, thanks to my eating raw organic produce, and was released for additional exercise. It is great to hear that bananas fuel us for that sort of distance. Thanks!
Now, for the bloating. I do think that stomach expansion is normal temporarily. As to the bloating of the fingers, etc., I have no idea. Do you think that it could be stored sodium or msg causing this?

Good luck and lots of fun on your training! Finishing that half marathon gives you such a great feeling of accomplishment! How awesome it must feel to complete a full marathon! But I am not quite up for that yet!
Honestly, I have no clue what causes the bloating. I stopped eating salt over a month ago. Is it possible that it is still in my system?
Permalink Reply by ORGANIC811LFRV on May 21, 2012 at 8:21am Nerada, yes I do. That and everything that is a chemical stays in our system for years until we 1)start slowly detoxing by eating 811rv preferably and 2)go and do a long water/rest fast at a retreat that caters to 811'rs. Both are necessary.
You wouldn't believe the amount of toxins, salt, msg, etc. that came out of my body the first month on this juice feast. Wow!!!!
Permalink Reply by Nerada on May 21, 2012 at 2:25pm I have been thinking about doing a fast, but read that a lot of ppl on here are against it. And with my demanding job, I can't make time for a fast at a retreat. How long should I fast for and what kind of fast do you recommend? My job requires a lot of physical work, so I don't think I could just live on water... :)
Thanks for your help!

I have a house cleaning business. I'd say that was pretty physically demanding, wouldn't you? LOL I am stronger than I have ever been. I've cured over 20 physical ailments in the last 92 days.
When you are sufficiently sick, you'll be sufficiently motivated to find a way to let the body totally rest and clean itself up. Or, like me, unable to do a water/rest fast, found it was ok to do an extended juice feast.
I would not recommend anything to anyone until I know the details of what they are doing now, guide them to cleaning up their eating and life sufficiently to promote the bodies healing, and then guide them to a minimum of 60 days of juice feasting. After that, 60 days of 80/10/10 by the book. I have a mentoring business also and this is my passion. There again, my students are very motivated for health and well-being.
Permalink Reply by Nerada on May 22, 2012 at 1:26am I have been thinking about juice feasting, to clean up my body from all the damage I have done to it for all those years. I'd love to give that a go. I'd still have the calories my body needs, minus the fiber, so my body can spend all the energy it needs on detoxing.
Only problem is convincing my hubby I am doing this for health reasons, unlike in the past, where I would fast cause I was heavily restricting calories just to be the thinnest girl in town.
I just would really love to know what causes the bloating. It is getting worse every day, my body swells up by a kg every day and I am eating more or less the same amounts of food every day.
Breakfast: bananas - to get me fueled first thing in the morning
Lunch: oranges - need that sweet flavor and juice in the middle of the day!! :)
Dinner: Big salad - lots of greens and some tomatoes
Snack: Today I ate apples with some plums - fills me up when I am hungry between lunch and dinner. Other days I will have grapes, peaches, nectarines or a small melon.
Nutritional value on average: between 2500-3000 cals, 90% carbs, 5% fat, 5% protein. Sometimes I'd have more protein, but I find it hard to eat more than 5% of fat a day. As soon as I find a good quality of nuts, I plan on including some into my diet as well. But right now, I just really have a love affair with sweet fruits!
Can you tell me more about juice feasts? Does the juice have to be freshly made? Can't it be a 100% fruit juice from the store? I don't have a juicer right now... And how much juice do you usually drink a day to keep you energized for your job? Which, of course, you are right - that really is very physically demanding! :) 6 months ago, when I was still in my calorie restricting phase, I was feeling dizzy all the time at work, on the verge of fainting. I was mostly only drinking water back then, and only eating low calorie greens. I don't want to feel that way ever again. So very unhealthy.
Thanks so much again for your input, it really helps :)
Permalink Reply by Julia on May 22, 2012 at 12:33am As far as I know, it doesn't matter, whether you eat smaller meals and more often or only 2 or 3 big meals. Do, what is easiest for you. :) But if you have a really big meal, it's better to wait 2-3 hours before you go and exercise.
Permalink Reply by Nerada on May 22, 2012 at 1:31am I think I am going to stick with 4 meals a day. Seems to suit me the best :)
Before I go on my daily run (about 10km) I eat one banana, keeps me fueled and I can exercise right away! I love bananas as a pre workout meal! Actually, they work wonders as a post workout meal too ;) I eat the other 4 after my shower, feels so good!
Thanks for your reply!
Permalink Reply by Nerada on May 24, 2012 at 2:57pm Thanks again for all of your helpful comments and tips! The bloating is gone :D
Now I still have some acne on my face - guessing from detoxing - but that is starting to clear up as well and my face is getting a nice "glow", I am also loving my tan!
Also, I noticed how amazingly fast my nails are growing! I have to cut them 2x a week!
