30 Bananas a Day!

30BADERS, I need your help!! I am writing my Master's Thesis/Dissertation on Raw Food and Spirituality!

Hey RAWsome people!!

I am working on 2 Master's Degrees right now (one in Women's Studies and one on Religion), and will have to write a thesis/dissertation for my religion degree.  I would like to write my thesis/dissertation on the spirituality of raw foods, and how people have experienced this first hand.  I really do believe that when one chooses to eat a LFRV diet, that mental clarity and spirituality awakens in that individual, allowing him or her to acheive a new level of spirituality that he/her never has before.  If you have any experiences with this and wouldn't mind me using them and your name in my paper, please let me know!

Happy Bananas!!

I have a ton of thoughts on this, and cosider my venture into lfrv dieting completely connected with my spiritual path. you can write me a message if you want to hear my thoughts...
I've found myself recommending this one a lot lately, but I feel it can't be recommended enough: "Left in the Dark", by Tony Wright and Graham Wynn. You can read it here: http://www.scribd.com/doc/4390832/Review-Copy-of-Left-in-the-Dark

It's about frugivorism and so much more related to consciousness, even spirituality (although the approach is more scientific than "fantastical"). Here's a random quote so you can see that it goes into things related to the spiritual:

"Julian Jaynes identified, from a detailed study of early writings, cultural archaeology and medical behaviourism, a state he termed the bicameral mind. He proposed that at one time human nature was split in two with an executive part called a god, and a follower part called a man. He argues that neither part was conscious in the way that we are today, and that consciousness arose when this bicameralism broke down under the pressures of social conflict and cultural change. His argument is fascinating and, whilst we have reached a different conclusion, his journey of discovery reveals much that is of interest to us here. He hypothesized that there was a critical period in our history during which there was greater access to right-sided function. The 'god side of self' is a manifestation of the right-sided self. The internal voice that comes this side was equated with god because it has a directness and authority. It often tells the individual what to do. Thus Agamemnon 'had to obey' the 'cold command' of Zeus and Paul, the command of Jesus on the road to Damascus. Jaynes assumes that the voices heard during this historic transition were similar to the voices heard by not only present day schizophrenics but also by many 'normal' people when they are subjected to unusual or stressful events. Hearing these voices is taken by some to be a gift, perhaps even a divine gift. And they have an elemental power that seems hard to resist, even in extreme cases when for instance they command on to take one's own life. They take precedence over all logic and reason."
Apparently, the ancient Indian sages (rishis) advocated a raw food diet (fruits, leaves and roots). Maybe try to do some research on that....because those guys more or less invented spirituality.
There is a great story of the enlightenment of Druva Maharaja in the Srimad Bhagavatam which explictly describes how he ate.

One of his guru's instructions includes:

A devotee who has full control over his self should be very sober and peaceful and must be satisfied simply with eating whatever fruits and vegetables are available in the forest. (SB 4.8.56)

When it describes his spiritual practice, this is how his diet is described:

SB 4.8.71: Dhruva Mahārāja, having arrived at Madhuvana, took his bath in the River Yamunā and observed fasting in the night with great care and attention. After that, as advised by the great sage Nārada, he engaged himself in worshiping the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

SB 4.8.72: For the first month Dhruva Mahārāja ate only fruits and berries on every third day, only to keep his body and soul together, and in this way he progressed in his worship of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

SB 4.8.73: In the second month Dhruva Mahārāja ate only every six days, and for his eatables he took dry grass and leaves. Thus he continued his worship.

SB 4.8.74: In the third month he drank water only every nine days. Thus he remained completely in trance and worshiped the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is adored by selected verses.

SB 4.8.75: In the fourth month Dhruva Mahārāja became a complete master of the breathing exercise, and thus he inhaled air only every twelfth day. In this way he became completely fixed in his position and worshiped the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

SB 4.8.76: By the fifth month, Mahārāja Dhruva, the son of the King, had controlled his breathing so perfectly that he was able to stand on only one leg, just as a column stands, without motion, and concentrate his mind fully on the Parabrahman.

SB 4.8.77: He completely controlled his senses and their objects, and in this way he fixed his mind, without diversion to anything else, upon the form of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

The entire Srimad Bhagavatam is available for free online here:

Thanks, I will definitely look into that!
Wow, very cool!! Thanks!
I wholeheartedly encourage you - as this is an important element in the lifestyle -
and also the very health science -
that most people shy away from discussing.

I tend to think that raw foods have their " prana " or " agni " or " chi " or " pneuma " intact -
hence - they DO affect ones spirituality.

Also - their cleansing effect is important in
" purifying the temple so that the soul enters ".

Meditation becomes much easier and more profound.

My meditations on raw foods are . . .
first five minutes - more spacey / erratic thoughts / " can't settle down " -
after that . . . BLISS ! - in general -

My meditations after cooked food were / are . . .
first five minutes - maybe more settled and comfortable -
after that . . . tendency to either - fall asleep - or just feel " like I'm sitting there " - wasting my time.
Also -

I wanted to add to my above comment -

That although I find that the LFRV lifestyle
benefits spiritual / natural awareness - INCREDIBLY !

I have also had the experience -
( don't hate on me people )
of " recognizing " God / Goddess / The Self / Pure Being -
in the deep fryer over at McDonald's - as much as anywhere -

And so - how to reconcile ?

That is something I'm working on now as far as a question -
to which I have gotten some kind of answers -
revolving around the concept of -

SPIRIT AS VAST INDEED -

There is always a 360 degree / infinite / cyclic / multidimesional / spin happenin' -
that has a coexistence of all kinds of attributes ( positive ? / negative ? ) - manifesting within it.

Our LFRV lifestyle is TRULY SPIRITUALLY BEAUTIFUL -

And a little child happily sucking on her sugar lollie is BEAUTIFUL too -
from a different " degree of the infinite perspective ".
Awesome thesis idea! I have had a spontaneous kundalini rising experience shortly about 1-2 days after i did my first liver flush to detoxify. I had been hfrv for 1 year prior to that event. send me a message if you are interested in hearing more.
Wow, thanks for all of your wonderful and helpful thoughts!!!
How is this going? It sounds really interesting. I was wondering if you had looked into how the pineal glad gets calcified by drinking chlorinated water and eating dairy and how going raw can decalcify it so you really do have enhanced perception..

wait is it from drinking fluoridated water? anyway, i heard about that a couple days ago and got really nauseous that my water has been/still is poisoned all my life. is it true that by going raw you can reverse the calcified effects? can you really un-calcify it??
