30 Bananas a Day!

Hi,

I'm a moderately active 26 yr old woman. by moderately active i mean, most days i take at least two walks of a mile each with my dogs, but i often bike ride and do yoga as well. i work as a nurse so i'm on my feet and walking the for 12 hrs at a time. on my days off my husband and i white water raft, kayak, mountain bike, and hike. so every week i have two to three days of intense activity and the rest its just walking or biking or whatever.

i'm eating around 2000-3000 calories of fruit a day. i am not losing weight. i want to lose weight because i need to lose about 10 pounds. do you think i should eat less? i am not eating much overt fats - just maybe a few tablespoons of sunflower seeds or chia seeds on my daily salad. i drink about 3 liters of water daily and i dont eat salt, even though i'm a salt addict in a previous life.

should i just be patient? its only been about a month now that i've been doing it dedicatedly.

thanks!!

be patient, the last 10 lbs take the longest to let go of. could take a year.
If you calculate your daily caloric needs using a calculator such as this one,

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/calorie-calculator/NU00598

what does it say?
yes, just wait. i know it is hard but this diet revolutionizes your entire self. your body may be working hard to heal and repair areas that need attention before it is ready to let go of your fat stores. just because you can't see the changes right away doesn't mean they aren't happening. i would suggest that you actually stop weighing yourself. don't make it about numbers anymore, allow weight loss to be a great side effect of a wholly transformational process. when it is ready the weight will pour off. keep your calories up :) you are doing great, the first month is the hardest! don't allow weight to discourage you, start paying attention to all the great benefits of the lifestyle in itself :)
well said
I would advise you not to eat less. I did not start losing weight until I started eating over 2600 calories. I now eat more than 3000 calories each day and I am not gaining weight. The more calories you eat the more energy you will have to exercise. You need a caloric defecit through exercise, not calorie restriction.
Youve been doing this for a month? Give it a couple of years on 3000cals a day and then see how fit and healthy you are. Chances are you'll be the fittest and healthiest person you know, or one of em.

You want to drop 10lb or you need to drop 10lb cos youve got a bad knee and a split hip?

10lb of what and how are you quantifying this? Underwater weighing/dexa scan etc

Is it fat, fluid retention, bone loss, muscle, glycogen retention?

If a baby didnt walk after a month of 'trying' should we tell that baby to quit or explain that good things take time and everyone progresses at different rates but everyone progresses in the end. As long as we are persistent and consistent.

It takes 3 years of consistent cycling to ride well. So many people give up after a year. All the healthy and fit people I know, they have all been doing something for at least 10 years. Im not talking about the 23year old that works out a bit, drinks, smokes and looks 'great'...Im talk'n bout the mumma's and pappa's in their 40's,50', 80's90's that are still represent'n.

Maybe give this lady an email and tell her youve been doing the right things for a month but its just not 'working' like you want it to.. :)

Your on the right track, keep on cruz'n. The reward is the journey, not the destination.
thanks guys! i appreciate the feedback. i feel super encouraged. i definitely agree that more food = more energy to exercise. Since I've been eating like this I have way more energy and stay on my bike longer, run further, etc. DR, yes I have a bad knee and I'm trying to fix it with eating better, losing some weight and lots of strengthening exercises. I am trying to stay way from surgery. So hoping that a little less weight on it will help.

thanks you guys I appreciate it so much. this site has been a real inspiration for me.
